Middle School Wrestling

1/13/26- The NRMS 8th graders opened the season at Mondovi tonight, wrestling opponents from Mondovi/Eleva- Strum, Black River Falls, Stanley-Boyd, and Elk Mound. As a team we went 21-5 in matches wrestled, which includes 18 pins! We’ll recognize all of our wrestlers throughout the season for their incredible Tiger pride and representation of NRMS wrestling. Tiger pride for last night’s competition goes out to all of our 8th graders, but especially to Brooke Peltier and Aydin Bartlett who each wrestled their first career matches tonight – and each earned hard fought victories putting their training on display in their wins! Both wrestled outstanding, learning a ton about positions they didn’t know their bodies could get into! Tiger pride also goes to Cameron Finwall and Jace Drinkman for their incredible growth since last season! Both wrestlers were tough, tenacious, and a terrors on the mat (in a good way of course) attacking their opponents constantly in effort to score. Excellent wrestling in their season debuts. Tiger pride to all of our 8th grade wrestlers who have been incredibly coachable all season and continued that especially tonight. And a special Tiger Pride to admin assistant all star, Ms.Witzel, for helping us organize this meet very quickly including getting our bus organized – we couldn’t have done this without her! Thank you Ms. Witzel.

1/19/26– The NRMS wrestled competed at Osceola last night, wrestling opponents from Prescott, Ellsworth, St. Croix Central, St. Croix Falls, Baldwin-Woodville, Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren, Amery, and Osceola. Tiger pride to 7th grader Joe Green who earned his first win of the season in his first competition. More impressively, Joe improved tremendously from his first match to second match of the evening, attacking and finishing his takedowns like a linebacker would finish a tackle. Tiger pride to 6th grader Sawyer Bartlett who was offered the opportunity to wrestle five matches last night and showed great perseverance in each of them, earning a win in his final bout of the evening using a great half Nelson to earn the pin. Tiger pride to 8th grader Marco Montanari who had great movement on his feet and moved well in the bottom position throughout the evening.  Tiger pride to 8th grader Zach Zanon who proved how tough he can be in wrestling a close match against intimidating competition.  Tiger Pride to 7th grader Isaak Plourde who wrestled with a great energy in his first matches of the season, wrestling in attack mode against challenging competition. Tiger pride to all of our wrestlers who supported each other all night, making sure their teammates were warmed up for matches, reported in a timely manner when their match numbers were called, and cheered mat side for one another.

1/26/26- The NRMS wrestling team competed at St. Croix Falls last night competing against stiff competition from Amery, Baldwin-Woodville, Clear Lake, Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren, Osceola, Somerset, St. Croix Falls, St. Croix Central, and Unity. Tiger pride to 6th grader Olive Winget who had great energy and enthusiasm in both of her matches – including a double overtime thriller that she fought throughout for a tough win. Olive was persistent through the whole match and kept attacking to earn a thrilling victory! Tiger pride to 7th grader Isaak Plourde earned two wins last night by dominating his opponents physically. Isaak has done a great job learning how to find the body position he needs to compete in any match. Tiger pride to 6th grader Isaiah Perreira who is learning quickly about the positioning and body awareness that is a major part of wrestling. He put this to use last night earning a pin to open the wrestling for the meet. Tiger pride to 7th grader Boe Plan who found creative ways to score in his match taking advantage of what his opponents offered him in his two wins on the night.  Tiger pride to 7th grader Trevor Hesselink who was tenacious in his two matches, setting up his opponents to put himself in position to score and dominate on the mat. Trevor embraced the “wrestler’s mentality” by following up his overwhelming wins last night by setting specific and targeted goals with even more intentional training and practice to continue to improve his positioning. Tiger pride to all of our wrestlers who did a great job cleaning up our space at the end of the meet and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the evening.
